We know different stuff turns different people on (or off, as the case may be). We plan to explore along with our readership. You will not find every flavor of eroticism here, but our goal is to present stories that entice—both mentally and physically.

Our mission is to curate quality erotica and erotic romance that respects and entices women.

Erotica: These are stories, by Pique's definition, that focus primarily on sexual exploration between characters. Meaning, the main plot of the story is driven by sex, and the characters' development is defined by their sexual interactions.

Erotic Romance: These stories revolve around the growth and/or development of a romantic relationship between characters, through sexual interaction. Meaning, sex is integral to the storyline and the characters' growth, but it does not drive the plot.

We want and accept stories of any genre. Give us your Sci/Fi Fantasy, your Historical Drama, your Screwball Comedy. Give us multidimensional characters of any and every type of sexuality, gender, age, race, body type, etc. We want it all!

Things to know up front:
  1. Please consider our mission when submitting your work. We take it seriously. So should you.
  2. We have an open submission process. Submit at any time! We publish four seasonal issues per year with the occasional story in-between. If your piece is accepted, we will slot your story into an issue or for single publication based on what is already in our queue. Note: Though our issues are not themed, we do sometimes put out calls for specific subjects or genres. You can find them under the Submissions menu on our website.
  3. Typical story length is 3,000 to 10,000 words. If you're interested in submitting longer work for consideration as one of our serially published stories, please use our other submission form.
  4. At this time, Pique does not pay authors. (Heck, we don't even pay ourselves.) However, authors who publish with Pique will always maintain copyright for the work they submit.
  5. Pique does not accept submissions in art, photography or video. If that changes, we’ll be sure to let you know.
  6. By using this system to submit your manuscript to Pique, you acknowledge and accept that we will have the rights to publish this submission in Pique-branded print and electronic media platforms known and yet to be developed. See below for more on rights.

Restrictions

All stories must meet the standard of our mission to curate quality erotica and erotic romance that respects and entices women. Within that standard, we are open to most anything, but we do have our limits. Pique will not accept stories:

  1. involving non-consensual sexual acts;

  2. involving sexual activity with minors (under 18, real or imagined);

  3. involving sexual acts between family members (real or imagined);

  4. involving bullying, hate speech or racism;

  5. related to sexual activity involving animals, corpses, scat, urine or vomit;

  6. that are clearly fanfiction; or,

  7. that are currently published or have been accepted for publication (including personal blogs, literotica.com, fictionpress.net, fanfiction.net, tumblr, blogspot, etc.).

These restrictions should not be considered all inclusive and we reserve the right to modify this list of restrictions at any time, and without warning.  If, during the course of writing, you are not sure whether content in your manuscript is acceptable, please feel free to ask before submitting.

Submitting Your Work

Please pay close attention here. If you don't follow these basic guidelines, you're telling our team you have trouble following direction. That alone will work against you in the submission process.
  • Be nice. Be respectful. We're all doing this for the love of it. You'll find our staff is courteous and enthusiastic. We expect the same from you.
  • Method of Submission: Stories should be submitted only through this submission tool.  We do not accept email submissions.
  • Multiple and Simultaneous Submissions: Please submit only one short story to us at a time. If you are submitting your manuscript to Pique and other magazines simultaneously and it is accepted for publication elsewhere, then please be professional and let us know as soon as possible that you are withdrawing your submission with us.
  • Length: As a reminder, Pique publishes short fiction that runs approximately 3,000 and 10,000 words long, so please be sure that your story is hovering around that count. (If you're a little over or under, let us know why and by how much in your message when you submit.)
  • Formatting your Submission: Your submission should be in the following standard manuscript format: 1″ margins, 12pt Times New Roman or Arial.
  • Condition of the Manuscript: We work with the authors we accept to make edits to story, flow and tone, if necessary. However, manuscripts that do not meet a basic standard of spelling, grammar and punctuation at the time of submission will not be considered.
  • Other: No images, HTML links or web addresses are allowed within stories.

Rights

At this time, Pique does not pay authors or artists for stories or artwork. However, in consideration for your published story, you will receive a PDF of the text that includes our masthead. This sort of PDF is handy to have when you need to provide other publications with clips of your published work.

This consideration and your submission grant Pique: first English-language rights; 12-month, exclusive rights from the date of publication; in the case of a serial story, 12-month, exclusive rights from the date of publication of the final installment; the right to use the story in any other Pique publications or format, following its use on our website.

If you place the story in another publication after Pique, we require that Pique be credited for first publishing it.
Pique is seeking novella-length erotica and erotic romance that can be serialized in 2-6 parts. Total story length can range from 20,000 to 60,000 words, with each part running at roughly the same length. Serial stories are published on a regular schedule over a set period of time.

Prior to the submission of a serial story manuscript we require a proposal that includes:
  • A Synopsis: The synopsis should be a 250-word (or shorter) summary and teaser that describes the premise of your story. This is your pitch. It should be tantalizing enough to make us want to continue on and read your outline and first chapter. Think book jacket or Amazon book descriptions.
  • An Outline: The outline should detail how many parts your story will be broken into, the major action and character development you expect to happen within each section, and the estimated word count for each section.
  • The first chapter or 5,000 words: We need to know you've got the chops. Show us what you can do.
  • Links to other completed work.
Our mission is to curate quality erotica and erotic romance that respects and entices women.
